NIT (National Indigenous Times)

The National Indigenous Times (www.nit.com.au) is a website dedicated to issues affecting Indigenous Australians. It started as a print newspaper on February 27, 2002, and has since transitioned to an online format. The publication is primarily owned by Wayne Bergmann, an Indigenous businessman and former CEO of the Kimberley Land Council (51%), alongside Australian journalist Tony Barrass (41%) and Richard Gregson, a former senior partner at PwC who now serves as a director at Hall Chadwick WA (9%). Owen Carriage, who also founded the Koori Mail, along with a group of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, originally created the publication.

    The Central Land Council has slammed what it calls the Northern Territory government's decision to "backflip" on a $12 million Aboriginal Ranger Grants election promise in this week's budget.     Central Land Council chair Warren Williams has written to the NT Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, Joshua Burgoyne, urging a suite of reforms to the Territory's Sacred Sites laws. Mr Williams noted that an earlier letter from one month ago had received no response, with which the Land Council was disappointed. "I have heard that the Legislative Scrutiny Committee has now made its report about the Amendment Bill and that Parliament is sitting again in May and June.

Everyday Tools to Help Mob is a collection of free resources available online and in hard copy which provides older Indigenous people with information and products to assist around the house, in the garden and getting from A to B. The end goal is to support strengthened social and emotional wellbeing.

    The National Native Title Council has announced its support for the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance in "advancing its global vision to protect people and the environment directly affected by mining". The NNTC noted on Wednesday that the IRMA is the only voluntary mining standard where affected communities and Traditional Owners have the same power as mining companies.
