    In southeastern Washington, the Richland City Council approved signing a letter addressing the participation of transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports.The council discussed the letter at the request of Jerrod MacPherson, a county administrator for Benton County. MacPherson emailed the mayors of Richland, Kennewick, Pasco and West Richland as well as the commissioners of Franklin county, asking for their support last month.

    Every year since 2020, the number of collisions on Washington highways in work zones has been rising. Between 2020 and 2024, it rose nearly 40%, from 1,149 to 1,607, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. One of the three main contributing factors to these crashes is speed.     UPDATE 4/30/25:Second Substitute House Bill 1154 is headed to Washington state Gov. Bob Ferguson’s desk. The bill was delivered to the governor on April 23. That will mean the state Department of Ecology will sign off on landfill permits. That’s in addition to local health departments. Permits will still be issued by local health departments. But, the state can take over if it deems that local health departments aren’t doing their job monitoring landfills.
