The town of Zebulon held a joint public hearing Monday night to discuss a proposed 511-unit development on 161 acres off of Zebulon Road. Planning Director Matt Lower discussed the proposal’s features to the board, saying that the development provides for more acreage than is necessary, which will ensure extra space for informal recreation and greenspace. “It’s less intense than what standard zoning would allow for on this site,” Lower said.

Bernie Meader was honored by the state’s Division of Aging last week for his work in the Franklinton Community Garden. Representatives of the Division of Aging, which is part of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, were at the Franklinton Senior Center Friday morning to present the Ernest B. Messer Award to Meader. The award is given by the Division of Aging to a person or organization that is making a positive impact in the lives of older adults.
