CHICAGO — Harrisburg senior captain Addie Budig was revealed Wednesday as the 2024-25 Gatorade South Dakota Girls Soccer Player of the Year. The 5-foot-7 Budig was a key contributor for a Tigers squad that claimed its third straight Class AA state title during the 2024 campaign, finishing with a perfect 18-0 record. A midfielder/defender, Budig anchored a Harrisburg defense that yielded only two goals all season.

CHICAGO — Sioux Falls Lincoln midfielder Brady Stamp was announced on Thursday, June 12, as the 2024-25 Gatorade South Dakota Boys Soccer Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10 junior guided the Patriots to a 15-1-1 record during the 2024 fall season, during which Lincoln won its second straight Class AA state crown. Stamp finished with 14 goals and eight assists. He also tallied a goal in the Pats’ 4-1 overtime victory over O’Gorman in the state final.

SIOUX FALLS — It’s one of the more highly anticipated events for the Sanford Sports Basketball Academy, and for coordinator Nate Kaeding, it hasn't gotten old. More than 130 high school student-athletes will gather Sunday and Monday at the Sanford Pentagon to take part in the fourth annual Who’s Next High School Combine. The boys combine will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, while the girls combine is slated for 1 p.m. Monday.

On June 3 in Pierre, a gaggle of Mitchell city leaders delivered an unambiguous message to the state’s prison construction work group. The city council, mayor, county commission, sheriff and various economic development officials were all in agreement: a patch of land south of Mitchell could easily host a new prison for 1,500 or more inmates, and their community would reap the benefits. That wall of official support has since cracked under the weight of fierce public opposition.
