When I walked into my thesis advisor’s office with nothing new to show him but my blue hair, I took a moment to reflect. Was I contemplating fulfilling the minimum requirements to graduate with an American Studies degree? No.Responsibly, I reflected on the role of dyed hair at Georgetown. I’ve never cared much about fashion. Of course, I want to look good (and do, most days, in my rough-around-the-edges, 10 minutes late to class with a giant iced coffee sort of way).

On March 15, St. Jude Children’s Hospital hosted its annual Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon with more than 19,000 registered participants. The 13.1 mile course stretched throughout D.C., taking runners on a tour around the nation’s capital and monuments. Among the thousands of runners were several Georgetown students. This race has become particularly popular among the Georgetown student body because of its convenient location and early-spring weather.

Dear readers… As we approach graduation, I’ve been reflecting on my time in the Voice. I’ve taken the creaky, smelly Leavey elevator for four years now, and every time I ride with one of my peers at The Hoya, I avert my gaze, trying not to blush. “Piece of trash,” “thug,” “classless”—these social media comments described Angel Reese after the 2023 NCAA National Championship game against University of Iowa. Reese, then a Louisiana State University (LSU) women’s basketball player, taunted Iowa’s Caitlin Clark by doing the “you can’t see me” hand gesture and pointing to her finger, indicating to Clark that she would win the national championship ring. LSU ultimately did win, and Reese’s clip didn’t take long to go viral.

Freshman Thomas Sorber, star forward for Georgetown men’s basketball, announced on Instagram that he is testing out the NBA Draft process, while maintaining college eligibility. Sorber wrote that he wants “to receive feedback from NBA teams” while considering whether to play professionally or return to Georgetown next year. Despite a season-ending injury, Sorber averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game this season, winning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week seven times.

Department of Homeland Security agents arrested Dr. Badar Khan Suri, a researcher at Georgetown, outside his home in Rosslyn, Virginia on Monday night, according to reporting by Politico. Khan Suri is an Indian national, and postdoctoral fellow at the Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He was lawfully in the United States through a student visa, according to a university spokesperson.
