LOWELL - For years, Derek John "DJ" Heath held onto resilience, a determination that was woven into the way he faced his battle with melanoma. Even in the most difficult moments, those who loved him said he remained devoted to those around him - giving a smile or a thumbs up when he was unable to speak, cracking jokes to ease the weight of reality, and ensuring those he cared about always felt his warmth.

Derek “DJ” Heath passed away last month at the age of 33 after a battle with cancer. He was one of the beneficiaries of the Keefe Family Polar Plunge this year. I had the honor to meet him. His bravery, concern for his loved ones, and humor through it all was inspiring.
