New research has found the region’s subsurface is perfect for renewable projects and energy-transition technologies, with the potential unlock £40bn of annual investment in jobs and economic growth. The British Geological Survey’s research identified eight "geological super regions" – areas with formations and conditions beneath the Earth’s surface that are favourable for a variety of different energy technologies.

Ashley Highfield, CEO of Oyster Yachts, will leave the business this autumn. The Southampton-based firm, which claims to build the world’s finest bluewater sailing yachts, has bases in Wroxham and Ipswich, as well as the USA, Spain and Australia. Mr Highfield, the former CEO of newspaper publisher Johnston Press, managing director of Microsoft UK and board director of the BBC, will hand over his current role to a new chief exec set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Rachel Reeves vowed to “renew Britain” by investing billions in energy, housing, defence and the NHS. But some departments, like the Home and Foreign Office, will have their day-to-day budgets cut with their spending being squeezed to pay for increases elsewhere. Candy Richards, the FSB’s development manager for the region, said the government has failed to “truly back small businesses”.

Breckland Council’s latest round of Rural England Prosperity Fund grants is now open. The government grants are designed to support rural businesses and are available to new start-ups as well as established firms. In the previous round, 57 grants were awarded to companies and community groups, unlocking investment of £3.24m into the district.

The chancellor Rachel Reeves backed projects in Aberdeenshire and Humber in her Spending Review on Wednesday, having previously pledged nearly £22bn for schemes in Merseyside and Teesside in last October’s Budget. Carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) aims to prevent carbon dioxide, primarily produced by industry, from being released into the atmosphere by capturing it and either reusing or storing it underground.

Terribly sad news. Eleanor was always so kind and helpful during my time reporting on the academy at #htafc. Thoughts with her family, friends, and everyone associated with the club.
