“Black Voices in Cabaret” holding Chicago concert CHICAGO (CBS) — A concert in Chicago this weekend aims to challenge views on what it means to be a cabaret performer. "Black Voices in Cabaret" will hold a concert on Saturday, Dec. 7, titled "Reimagining Cabaret—Jazz, Rhythm and Blues." Black Voices in Cabaret is an initiative of the nonprofit Working In Concert, which promotes the art of cabaret and classical vocal arts.

CHICAGO (CBS) — As the war in Gaza continues, two friends have teamed up to create a space for people to gather and share their unique experiences as it relates to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine. Ricardo Gamboa, who is Mexican American, and Haneen Shriam, who is Mexican and Palestinian-American created the group, "Latinos for Palestine" in January of 2024, about three months after the war in Gaza began.

Chicago teen hosting second back-to-school bash in Chatham CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago teen will hold an event on Saturday to help kids prepare for school. Jaqueza Thomas, 19, is hosting his second annual back-to-school bash on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Nat King Cole Park in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood. The event is free and open to anyone who wants to attend. More than 500 backpacks are planned to be handed out along with school supplies.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Community leaders and Chicagoans will gather this weekend to commemorate the Chicago Race Riot of 1919, which started on July 27th after the murder of Eugene Williams. Williams, a Black teen, was on a raft in Lake Michigan when he accidentally drifted into an area reserved for Whites. A group of Whites threw stones at Williams, causing him to drown. No one was arrested, which fueled outrage and violence through Chicago's South Side.
