The Laois senior hurlers made the perfect start to their Joe McDonagh Cup campaign as they defeated Westmeath with a fair degree of comfort, 3-25 to 1-22 at O'Moore Park. Tommy Fitzgerald's side ran out deserving nine-point winners over their visitors with Tomas Keyes, Ben Conroy and Cha Dwyer all rattling the net. Westmeath enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and led by two points after 20 minutes.

Laois County Council are to consider the possibility of building a second pedestrian crossing in Borris-In-Ossory. The matter was raised by Fine Gael Councillor Conor Bergin at a recent meeting of the Borris-In-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal District. Cllr Bergin requested that one be erected adjacent to St Canice’s Hall in the town.
