Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of Fiona Pender in Co Offaly have begun a second search. The search is being carried out on open grounds in the Slieve Bloom mountains area in Co Laois and follows the conclusion of a search near Tullamore on Tuesday. Ms Pender went missing on August 23, 1996, and was last seen at her apartment on Church Street, Tullamore, by her partner, John Thompson. She was 25 years old and seven months pregnant at the time she went missing.

Ms Pender was last seen at around 6am on the morning of Friday, August 23, 1996, at her flat on Church Street in Tullamore. She was described as being 5'5" in height, with long blonde hair and was 25 years old at the time she went missing. Fiona was wearing bright coloured clothing and white leggings and was seven months pregnant at the time.

A man is in serious condition in hospital after he was found unresponsive in the early hours of Monday in Cork City. Gardaí said the man, who is in his 20s, was found on Wintrop Street shortly before 12.30am. He was rushed to Cork University Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
