COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN) — Earlier this year, state representatives proposed the elimination of a food tax, a tax on food items from grocery stores that have to be taken home to be consumed, for a second time. That caused concern among many rural communities in Cochise County and across the state. In Sierra Vista, the tax generates more than $3 million and in Willcox it adds more than $600,000 to the budget. “Every dollar counts here,” said Willcox Mayor, Greg Hancock.

DOUGLAS, Ariz. (KGUN) — Each month, the Douglas Area Food Bank partners with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona for free food distribution. “They help a lot, whatever they give us,” said Douglas Resident, Otilia Roman. Volunteers, mostly with the Douglas Area Food Bank, handed free food to people from the community on Monday morning. Organizers estimate they served more than 600 families.

BISBEE, Ariz. (KGUN) — People can take a trip back in time this weekend with the Friends of Warren Ballpark. The group is hosting its 14th Copper City Classic Vintage Baseball tournament. The tournament features teams from Arizona, California and Colorado, all who play baseball like it was played in the early 1900s. (KGUN) — Sam Pillsbury has been making wine in Willcox for 25 years, but now he says it’s time to downsize his business, Pillsbury Wine & Vineyard, and find a new owner. “I’m just ready to move on,” Pillsbury said. He started his business after tasting a wine made with grapes from Willcox. “Arizona is just an exquisite place for growing grapes, much too people's amazement," Pillsbury said.

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KGUN) — The City of Sierra Vista had planned on receiving roughly $7 million from a Congressional appropriations committee for the latest phase of the Buffalo Soldier Trail reconstruction project. With Congress failing to pass a budget and continuing a resolution that suspends the distribution of appropriation funds, the trail of money has gone dry and the roadway remains unfinished.
