COVINGTON — A Newton County woman is facing five counts of aggravated assault after she allegedly fired a gunshot at a group of juveniles outside a residence on Greenway Drive in western Newton County. Two seriously injured in police chase that leads to accident

COVINGTON — A driver and a 9-year-old passenger were seriously injured Sunday afternoon when their car was struck by a vehicle that was fleeing from authorities. According to reports, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office initiated pursuit of a Hyundai Sonata on Ga. Highway 20 Sunday just before 4 p.m. The driver of the Sonata was suspected of DUI. During the pursuit, the Sonata, traveling west on Highway 20, lost control and crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking a Nissan Maxima.
Conyers budget sees 4.5% increase

CONYERS — The Conyers City Council will hold the second reading of its fiscal year 2026 budget Wednesday, June 4, with budget adoption set for June 18. CONYERS — State Rep. Jasmine Clark, D-Lilburn, has joined a field of two Democrat challengers seeking to unseat Congressman David Scott for the 13th District seat. Clark announced her candidacy Monday, saying she will “stand up and show up” for Georgia families under attack by President Trump. Everton Blair, former chair of the Gwinnett County Board of Education, and state Senator Emanuel Jones of Decatur, have already announced their candidacy.

COVINGTON — The city of Covington was founded in 1822, and now two entrepreneurs are planning to incorporate that date into a new venture in the historic downtown area. Brian Bernard and Tommy Walton have received a Special Use Permit for the former Ramsey Furniture property on Brown and Usher streets to allow development of a film studio, event facility, food truck pad, beer garden and microbrewery that will be named Stage 22.
Shofman named to spring Dean's List at Georgia State University

Alexandria Shofman of Jackson was named to the Spring 2025 Dean's List at Georgia State University. A history major, she wants to be a high school history teacher. To be eligible for the Dean's List, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term with no incompletes for the semester. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all classes taken at Georgia State.
