    A bid to turn over common good land in St Andrews to a business has been rejected. Councillors on Fife Council’s cabinet committee backed colleagues on north-east Fife’s area committee which had already unanimously blocked the bid for a five-year lease for a mobile sauna on land adjacent to East Sands beach. The deal could have netted £16,000 per year in income for the fund, but the committee was urged to back the decision made at local level.

    A former Kirkcaldy town centre pub could be turned into a new bridal shop. The application from Grande Dreams Ltd, which is currently based in the town’s Mitchelston Drive for a change of use which would breathe new life into the former Candy Bar at the harbour end of the High Street - a pub previously known to one generation as the Royal Scot and also The Wharf and then Brodies – has won approval from Fife Council.

    Work on more than 200 new council houses which stopped last year after the builder went into receivership is set to re-start. A new contractor has been approved to finish the developments in three towns. Fife Council’s cabinet committee has rubber-stamped the deal with Clark Contracts Ltd for 97 homes, consisting of 72 for general need, 19 for specific needs and six wheelchair homes. CCG (Scotland) Ltd will complete developments at New Flockhouse, Lochore, and Bellyeoman in Dunfermline.

    A Fife lawyer is to take the top job with one of Scotland’s leading independent legal firms. Andrew Diamond, from Aberdour, will become managing partner of Lindsays on October 1. He is a prominent property lawyer, currently as partner and head of residential property with the firm, with which he has been since 2012. Mr Diamond will succeed Alasdair Cummings, who is stepping aside after 14 years in the role, but will remain as a partner. He said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role.
