Whittier, Franklin, and Gorrell Elementary Schools in Massillon closed on May 23, marking the end of an era. Massillon City Schools is moving into two new elementary buildings in the fall. The old buildings will be demolished after abatement work beginning in August. MASSILLON – There will be no more recesses, no more school lunches and no more school bells at Whittier, Franklin and Gorrell. May 23 marked the last day for the three elementary schools.

The gallery has been full for the first four days of the trial. A few observers were unable to enter the courtroom during those days because there was no room.

The defendant and her defense team as well as prosecutors are waiting for jury to enter the courtroom. Family and friends of both Morris and Smith are in attendance. Officials have not let them in the courtroom yet.

The jury has reached a verdict in the murder trial of Marissa Smith. The 17-year-old Louisville teen is charged with felony murder in the stabbing death of Michael Morris Jr., 22.
