    Five Democrats are seeking the party's nomination for three Canton council at-large seats in a race that has become more contentious than normal. The candidates are: Incumbents James O. Babcock and Crystal C. Smith and challengers Kimberly D. Bell, Joe Cole and Bill Smuckler.     Canton City Council has committed to giving Habitat $150,000 a year over the next three years so the nonprofit organization can build garages with its new houses in Canton. Any leftover funds would then be put toward renovating houses. CANTON – Habitat for Humanity has long resisted requests to add garages when they build new homes for families. “This isn’t anything against garages,” said Beth Lechner, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity of East Central Ohio.

The Navarre-Bethlehem Township Community park has received several upgrades, including a wetland restoration and the installation of a wind booth. The township’s electric aggregation program will have a new rate starting May 1.
