The Living Dead Windows returns to Hannibal for the Halloween season from 5 to 8 p.m., on October 26. The free event will be on Main and North Street downtown and will host spooky scenes behind the windows of businesses and boutiques. The Windows event will feature live people surrounded by a Halloween setup. The event is considered family-friendly since nothing will jump out at visitors and the spooky atmosphere will be on the low end.

“Please, please, please,” Christian Lewis, 11, begs his 14-year-old brother, Andre Roland. It’s March 24, 1989, and Christian wants to play basketball down the street. “No,” Andre says repeatedly. The two are scheduled to play a basketball game later that day at their church, Progressive Baptist. His brother’s response doesn’t stop Christian; he continues pleading. Andre finally gives in, even though he knows they aren’t supposed to leave before their mother gets home from work.

On Dec. 8, 2022, recreational cannabis became legal in Missouri after voters approved Amendment 3 the previous month. The use of cannabis for medical reasons has been legal in Missouri since 2018 through Amendment 2. But regulations around marijuana are far from an anything-goes free-for-all. The state of Missouri and the city of Columbia both have rules governing how residents interact with the substance, and private businesses can make rules as well.
