A woman in her early 50’s was found deceased in her car yesterday at 11:40 a.m. at the 14000 block of Abercorn Street, near the southside Walmart, Savannah Police Department (SPD) Public Information Officer Neil Penttila said in a phone call. There didn't appear to be obvious signs of foul play, but an autopsy and death investigation still needs to be conducted, said Penttila. The woman will not be identified publicly as next-of-kin has not been notified, Penttila added.

(This story was updated to add new information.) The Savannah Fire Department (SFD) is investigating a fire that occurred early this morning at Strange Bird Savannah, according to an email sent from SFD Public Information Officer Cheryl Mason. SFD was dispatched to the restaurant, located at 1220 Barnard Street, at 2:41 a.m., said Mason. Smoke and flames were visible upon arrival. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of arrival. No occupants were present and there we no injuries.

Maria Patricio, a central figure in a large human trafficking case, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison. Patricio pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud for her role in exploiting farmworkers. Prosecutors argued Patricio profited from the scheme and filed numerous petitions for farmworkers who were later abused. Patricio's defense attorney argued her involvement was minimal and that she cooperated with authorities.

Savannah Police make arrest in alleged assault of 66-year-old man by men dressed as Amazon workersThe Savannah Police Department (SPD) has made an arrest in the assault of a 66-year-old man on Jan. 11 on the 500 block of Price Street, according to a press release sent by SPD Public Information Officer Neil Penttila. SPD arrested Tyrone Anthony, 27, in connection with the home invasion.
