Wykeham Cricket Club are set to host their first-ever women’s cricket festival this weekend. The village cricket club will host their first women's cricket festival on Sunday May 4. The first game sees the home team play against Sessay Emeralds, 10.30am, start, then York will play against Emeralds and then the final match is between Wykeham and York.

Luke Calvert snapped up a spectacular seven wickets for just two runs in his 6.1 overs as Forge Valley romped to a 150-run home opening-day victory against Brompton 2nds in the YPLN Beckett Division 3.Aron Calvert led the way with the bat as Valley set a total of 186-8 in their 40 overs, smacking eight fours and one six, with support from Charlie Baldwin (31), Gary Gibson (26) and Liam Calvert (25).

Alec Coulson’s Edgehill team defeated Newlands 5-1 in the Scarborough FA District Cup final at Scarborough Sports Village on Friday evening to complete a treble-winning campaign. Edgehill had already won the Right Car East Riding County League Championship North title in their debut campaign and clinched their third North Riding FA Saturday Challenge Cup final in a row during their run-in.

Danby FC had two reasons to celebrate on Saturday, earning place in a cup final then having their promotion from Newitts.com Beckett Football League Division 2 confirmed after West Pier earned the title with a 5-1 win at Goldsborough. Danby edged the Panasonic Division Two Cup semi-final by the odd goal in five at home to Ryedale. The visitors took an early lead with a header from Ben Thompson, only for the hosts to draw level before half-time.

Scarborough Athletic Reserves were beaten 4-2 by Humber Premier League runners-up Sculcoates Amateurs in a closely contested Whiteheads Fish & Chips League Cup semi-final at Pocklington Town FC. Scullies led 1-0 at the break, courtesy of a second-minute goal from Gael Nzayadio, and doubled their lead four minutes into the second half when Jake Harman poked home. Boro reduced the arrears through Charlie Colley on 58 minutes, drawing level with a Robbie Scarborough spot-kick in the 73rd minute.

Staxton started life in YPLN Beckett Division 1 with an impressive 115-run win at home to Sherburn. Openers Jack Pinder and Ryan Baldry hit superb knocks of 80 and 66 respectively in the home side’s imposing 279-7 in 45 overs, Ryan Hargreaves adding 40 and Daley Wharton taking 3-56. Ben Simpson (34) and Dean Foxton (30) were the top scorers as Sherburn were all out for 164, Kingsley Gray (3-26) and Dan Outhart (3-37) the top home bowlers.

Flixton won a thrilling first round match of the National Village Cup by just five runs at home against Nidderdale League side West Tanfield. The visitors won the toss, asked Flixton to bat as openers Will Hutchinson (23) and Richard Malthouse (30) put on 47 for the first wicket. Wickets fell following their departure before Connor Stephenson (32) and Jack Walmsley (30) pushed the score on to what looked like and turned out to be a par score of 188-9 off their 40 overs.

Bridlington Town played out their final NPL East game of the season with a 2-0 defeat at home to play-off contenders Belper Town. Head Coach Mike Thompson made only one change to his starting 11 Bobby Attree replacing Benn Lewis, writes Alexander Fynn. Brid were slow to get into the match and the visitors had the first opportunity, when Louis Keenan fired in a corner close to the goal-line, which Bolton Makwedze cleared away.

Boro rounded off their league campaign with a hard fought 1-1 draw at Peterborough Sports, to finish 13th in National League North for the second successive season. After not really getting going in a disappointing first half, Jono Greening’s side were much better after the break, and gave their noisy and colourful band of supporters, many in fancy dress, plenty to cheer about, as they pressed and challenged for every ball, and came close to snatching all three points, writes Steve Adamson.
