Residents of Altadena, California are facing difficult choices in the wake of the devastating Eaton fire, which started just over a month ago in the foothills northeast of Los Angeles. Rebuild, or sell their properties to developers and leave the neighborhood? Angela King is KUOW’s host of Morning Edition, and she grew up in Altadena.. I've never felt so nervous while flying back to my hometown in Southern California. I also feel a sense of urgency among other passengers as we come in for a landing at Burbank International Airport. Everyone's peering through what sliver of airplane-window they can find before we touch down. We all look like meerkats. We want to get our first glimpse of the damage left behind by the Palisades and Eaton fires. Seeing it firsthand makes it real, makes it personal, especially for passengers like me.

How does one collect 100,000 albums? If you're Kevin Cole, you spend 50 years in radio, and a lot of your childhood in the local record store. "I'd go to the place called the Wax Museum in Minneapolis," Cole said. "I would take the bus there. It would take 40 minutes. I had this heightened level of anticipation, and if I saw a cover I liked, I bought it."All of Cole’s albums, and the thousands more sitting in storage, have served Cole well as the afternoon drive time DJ for KEXP 90.3 FM.
