NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — One person is dead after a vehicle was discovered submerged in the water early Thursday morning at Portage Lakes State Park. According to a press release from the New Franklin Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 5:35 a.m. for a report of a vehicle in the water near the boat ramps at 4357 State Park Drive in New Franklin. Divers located a victim inside the vehicle at approximately 6:10 a.m., according to officials.

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police say a woman was unintentionally shot Wednesday afternoon during a reported exchange of gunfire that led to the arrest of two teens and the recovery of multiple firearms. According to Akron police, officers responded to the 800 block of Palmetto Avenue around 2:33 p.m. 18 after receiving multiple 911 calls about shots being fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found a 36-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the leg.

CLEVELAND — Ryan Goughnour, a former contracted athletic trainer at University School, has been sentenced after pleading guilty to multiple charges tied to a criminal case that led to his removal from the school’s campus. He was sentenced on Wednesday to three years in prison and will be required to register as a tier 1 sex offender.

BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns will honor the 40th anniversary of the Dawg Pound with a season-long initiative called “Dawg Pound XL,” the team announced Wednesday. The celebration aims to spotlight the history, fans, memorable moments and legends behind the team's famous fan base. The Dawg Pound originated in 1985 during the Browns’ training camp at Lakeland Community College, when star cornerbacks Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnifield started barking at teammates to create a team identity.

LYNDHURST, Ohio — Two new restaurant concepts from Cleveland restaurateur Brad Friedlander are coming to Legacy Village in Lyndhurst. Friedlander, in partnership with Cleveland Restaurant Management Group (CRMG), is launching The Legacy, a fine-dining tribute to his 50-year career. He's also opening EVOO, a modern Greek-Mediterranean concept. The Legacy is expected to open on Thanksgiving, while EVOO is slated for early 2026, according to a news release from CRMG.
