WKYC Channel 3 boasts a long and storied history in broadcasting. We originally launched as WNBK on October 31, 1948, as an NBC affiliate, and we've maintained that relationship with NBC ever since. Our station has a reputation for quality local programming, featuring hits like "Barnaby," which remains the highest-rated locally produced show, and "The Mike Douglas Show," which achieved national syndication. Throughout our history, we've been pioneers in Northeast Ohio broadcasting, being the first to air in color, the first to use stereo sound, the first to introduce closed captioning for viewers with hearing impairments, and the first to provide a digital broadcast signal. Our news teams have received numerous regional Emmy awards along with various local and national accolades for their exceptional reporting and commitment to community service. In November 1995, WKYC was acquired by Gannett, Co. Inc., which later separated its publishing and broadcasting divisions, making Channel 3 a part of TEGNA Media, one of the most extensive and diverse broadcasting companies in the country.

    AKRON, Ohio — Ring doorbell footage captured the moment four armed masked men broke into Jasmine Scaffidi’s home on East Crosier Street in Akron. “I have no idea who these guys are, or what their intentions were,” said Scaffidi. “I was actually terrified.”  The 25-year-old Scaffidi said she was in her kitchen Monday night at around 9:30 when she encountered the men. “I like, looked at them and was like, ‘Get out of my house.     NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — It's been a deadly week on the water across Northeast Ohio. Search efforts are ongoing in Cuyahoga Falls to find a father who went missing in a weekend tubing incident that left his 5-year-old son dead. On Tuesday, two more people died by drowning — a 20-year-old woman at Lorain's Lakeview Beach followed by a 49-year-old man at Portage Lakes State Park.

    CLEVELAND — Crews were hard at work late Tuesday night battling a fire at the Brost Foundry Company on East 55th Street in Cleveland. The building, located in the historic North Broadway area of Broadway-Slavic Village, caught fire no later than 10 p.m. The flames appeared to be under control by 11 p.m., but there was no word on injuries or what damage the foundry may have suffered.

    CLEVELAND — As a heat wave belts Northeast Ohio, a number of storms have started to pop up in the area, with several counties currently under a severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 p.m. The alert impacts northeastern Ashland, south central Lorain, southern Medina, and northwestern Wayne counties. The National Weather Service says a thunderstorm was located over Lodi around 10:04 p.m. moving east at 25 mph.

    NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — 3News has confirmed one person is feared to be dead after drowning in the waters off Portage Lakes State Park Tuesday afternoon. Officials say the victim, a male, drowned in the lake near the park's public beach. The circumstances that led to his disappearance are not known at this time, but crews describe the search for him as "a recovery effort." This would be the second fatal drowning at Portage Lakes State Park within the last week.
