TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Young people in East Texas are reevaluating their relationship with alcohol this Alcohol Awareness Month. Data shows it’s a trend that’s been making a positive impact nationwide, and now, it’s being seen in the Piney Woods. 22-year-old Natalee Bates is a part of this trend, starting what she calls her short-lived “drinking career” in her teenage years. “My life was very dependent on alcohol. My life revolved around alcohol,” said Bates.

Emails accessed through a public information request are now revealing why the contractor asked for those payments and how TxDOT originally responded. Plans for the Old Jacksonville Highway expansion project in Smith and Cherokee counties have been in the works for nearly a decade.
