Lance Phillips, who was recently convicted for assaulting a peace officer while being removed from Smith County Commissioners Court, has filed a federal lawsuit against Smith County officials claiming his constitutional rights were violated while attending commissioners court meetings. Phillips was found guilty last week of assault of a peace officer or judge for an incident at the April 2, 2024, Smith County Commissioners Court meeting, during which he was being removed from the courtroom.

A Tyler man was shot by police and later died Thursday night after officers responded to a disturbance call in the Cascades neighborhood. The man was identified as John Augustine Tangney O'Kelly, 38, of Tyler. Police say he was suicidal at the time of the shooting. Officers were called around 7 p.m. to a home in the 3100 block of Cascades Court in Tyler. Dispatchers initially received the call as a suspicious person, but it was later updated to a disturbance involving a person inside a home.

A man was shot by police after Tyler Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call in a Tyler neighborhood. Around 7 p.m. Thursday night, police officers were dispatched to a home in the 3100 block of Cascades Court. At first, a suspicious person was reported but the call later turned into a disturbance with a person inside of a home. Officers went inside the home to assist with the disturbance.

The UT Tyler baseball team's record-setting campaign came to a conclusion on Tuesday in Cary, North Carolina. The Patriots, seeded No. 4, fell to No. 1 Tampa (Florida), 8-1, in the NCAA Division II College World Series at USA Baseball Complex. UT Tyler, which set a team record for wins, concludes its season at 49-13. The Patriots, who won the 2018 College World Series as a Division III squad, were appearing in their first Division II CWS.
