Since then, more than £35,000 has been raised for local and regional charities, with hundreds of walkers taking part. This year’s walk is on Saturday May 17, with registration at 10.30am at the Calverley Arms. Sponsorship forms are available from Calverley Library.

A new cafe has opened in Calverley with a familiar face behind the counter. Saeed Hussain was often seen working at the Post Office for his mum Waheeda before it closed. Now he has a shop of his own in the village. Cravings by Sid opened its doors on Saturday, selling sandwiches, cakes, deli items, hot and cold drinks and bread. Based in the former Calverley Deli, just a few doors down from the old Post Office, the cafe will be open Wednesdays to Sundays, 10am to 2.30pm, then 3 to 9pm.
