    One person was stabbed in the back late Tuesday morning during a fight in downtown Bellingham, according to police. Bellingham Police Department officers responded to an assault around 11:36 a.m. in the 600 block of Dupont St., said Claudia Murphy, a patrol lieutenant in an emailed statement. Officers found a 39-year-old male on the ground with two stab wounds to his back. The victim was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries. He’s expected to recover.

    The public will have the opportunity once again to weigh in on whether the Port of Bellingham Board of Commissioners should expand its membership from three to five members. During the Tuesday, June 17 regular meeting, Commissioner Michael Shepard instructed staff to prepare a discussion on expansion in July. Commissioner Ken Bell added that he wanted to see a resolution prepared for the meeting that commissioners could then vote on to trigger the process for an expansion election.

    Two overnight shooting incidents in Bellingham Sunday left one person injured, according to police. Bellingham police responded around 1:17 a.m. on June 15 to the 100 block of East Magnolia Street after multiple people called 911 to report gunshots, said Claudia Murphy, a patrol lieutenant for Bellingham Police Department. Officers found a Honda with five men leaving the area, Murphy said.
