Tionn Fambro Carter announced Monday that she plans to run for circuit judge in Illinois’ 14th Judicial Circuit, which covers the Illinois Quad-Cities. Carter, already serving as an associate judge in the circuit, is seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat expected to be open in 2026 because Judge Linnea Thompson has announced that she won’t seek retention. Thompson made the announcement earlier this month. The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Thompson to fill a vacancy in 2013.

Autopsy results indicate a woman who was found dead Saturday at the American Motor Inn in Rock Island died from head injuries. Rock Island police officers responded at 11:11 a.m. Saturday to the motel, 4300 11th St., to conduct a welfare check. They found 19-year-old Alexis J. Roelandt dead inside the room. Investigators consider her death a homicide. Coroner Brian Gustafson said Wednesday afternoon that preliminary autopsy results indicate Roelandt died from traumatic head injuries.

A Rock Island County jury found Johnell Smith III guilty on one count of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion in the 2023 fatal shooting of Danny Taylor. The jury did not reach a unanimous decision in a second count of first-degree murder. Danny Taylor, 17, died early on April 14, 2023, after being shot at his home in rural Milan. Investigators think his assailants intended a robbery.

Authorities allege a 21-year-old man stabbed a woman on Tuesday in East Moline, seriously injuring her. Investigators do not think the woman’s injuries are life threatening, the East Moline Police Department said in a release issued Friday. She was hospitalized but later released. Mustafa Gumaa Hamad, address unavailable, faces a single count of aggravated domestic battery and two counts of aggravated battery, according to authorities.
