SALT LAKE CITY, UT — As the Utah Jazz game began at Denver’s Ball Arena on Monday Night, announcer David Locke and his team were knocked off the air. A man spilled his beer all over the mixing board, where mics and monitors were plugged in. Locke and the rest of the crew improvised to keep Utah Jazz fans up to date. A short time later, an announcement was made on air about the mishap. Locke also tweeted about the incident.

KANAB, Utah — In March of 2012, multiple fossil fragments were found in Glenn Canyon National Park, in Utah. Scott Richardson was a trained volunteer and was interning for Dr. Barry Albright from University of North Florida. Richardson unearthed the skull fragments of what seemed to be a Mosasaur. After two field seasons, a BLM-National Park Service found nearly half of the bones of this creature.

A large low-pressure system hangs above the Beehive state, and with it comes heavy rain. “Today (Thursday) we have a lot of moisture available from these thunderstorms,” Salt Lake Lead Meteorologist Christine Cruz says.

LEHI, Utah — On Thursday morning a cold air funnel was seen in Lehi as drivers headed into work. And while they are an anomaly, (cold air funnels don’t typically make an appearance in Utah) for the most part, they are fairly harmless. According to the National Weather Service, cold air funnels can form in mild thunderstorms and rain showers – the exact type of weather that northern Utah has been experiencing. They form when there is warm air at lower altitudes and colder air above the clouds.

SALT LAKE CITY — COVID education funds have come under fire by critics who claim states aren’t using them well, if at all. Utah, however, seems to be the exception. Jessica Kjar, the cares education specialist at the State Board of Education, says the funds have been well spent in Utah. So well that she is actively working on finding ways to get more funding. She hopes schools can continue their extra programs once COVID relief funds run out next September.

(CNN) — Police in Austin, Texas, said a man contacted them and admitted to killing two people, which led authorities to investigate his possible involvement in up to 10 other killings. Raul Meza Jr., 62, called police on May 24 and confessed to killing his 80-year-old roommate, Jesse Fraga, and implicated himself in the killing of 66-year-old Gloria Lofton in 2019, Austin Police Department officials said at a Thursday news conference.

SALT LAKE CITY — First it was the Bible and now Davis School District has a complaint against the Book of Mormon being on school bookshelves. One Utah lawmaker is calling for further evaluation. Rep. Ken Ivory, R-West Jordan, released a full statement Friday. The statement calls for a total age-appropriate review of all materials in Utah schools. Ivory sponsored HB 374. This bill requires schools to do a full review if parents complain about a book that contains “sensitive content.”Co-Sponsor Sen.
