CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine issued a reprieve Friday for the man sentenced to death for killing a Cleveland police officer. Quisi Bryan was convicted in 2000 of killing Cleveland Police Officer Wayne Leon. His most recent execution date for Jan. 7, 2026 has been moved to Nov. 15, 2028. Officer Leon, 32, was killed at a gas station after pulling over Bryan on June 25, 2000.

WATTS TOWNSHIP, Penn. (WOIO) - A Ravenna woman finally has her name back decades after her skeletal remains were discovered along a Pennsylvania roadway. Pennsylvania State Police say the remains belong to Dorris Joanne Girtz, who went missing at about 23 years old and grew up in Portage County. Troopers announced the development in the cold case Friday, June 20, which is exactly 46 years since the remains were found.

Thankfully, the driver was not hurt when the tree toppled on Mentor Avenue. The police department shared the shocking video to its Facebook page. MADISON, Ohio (WOIO) - A minor earthquake was detected Thursday near Madison along the Lake Erie shoreline. The 2.3 magnitude earthquake was reported around 12:54 p.m. Thursday by the United States Geological Survey. People in Northeast Ohio can submit a “Felt Report” to the U.S. Geological Survey describing what they experienced during the earthquake. The U.S. Geological Survey said Northeast Ohio has a seismic zone with moderately frequent earthquakes.

OHIO (WOIO) - With warm weather moving into Northeast Ohio, some communities are opening up cooling centers to help you beat the heat. This list will be updated as additional resources are announced. AKRONOperating hours for Summit Lake Community Center at 380 W. Crosier St. are extended on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. People are welcome between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.While most Akron communities centers are closed Sunday, a spokesperson said they will reevaluate if temperatures warrant.
