GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mesa County Board of Commissioners has officially signed off on the 2024 budget for the county. The board approved $261.1 million for 2024. County officials say the budget will prioritize financial sustainability and invest in infrastructure. Officials also say they plan on investing in top-tier employees to core services to strengthen the quality of life in mesa county. This year’s budget has increased 7.6 percent from last year.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Several people have been arrested by Grand Junction police after an incident that put a neighborhood shelter in place. At around 12:25 Wednesday afternoon, police tried to contact 38-year-old Lucas Whitney. Upon contacting Whitney the suspect fled into a house on Willow Road. SWAT officers were called to the scene. Whitney was taken into custody. It turns out several others in the house also had warrants and were also arrested.
Mesa County Department of Health hires new Executive Director

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - After several months without a permanent executive director, the Mesa County Department of Public Health has hired a new director. The Board of the Mesa County Department of Public Health unanimously voted to hire Xavier Crockett. Crockett will start work on December 11, 2023. He will be paid $180,000 a year.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The City of Grand Junction leaf removal program begins this week and ends December 13, 2023. This annual community program is free of charge and assists residents with the removal of leaves. The purpose of this program is to eliminate excess leaf build-up along city streets that can cause storm water drains to clog, it helps prevent flooding and reduces the potential for negative impacts on city water quality.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - KKCO?KJCT has learned that a Grand Junction doctor and a colleague are stuck in Gaza City. Dr. Barbara Zind is a pediatrician from Grand Junction. She and another colleague have been stuck in Gaza City since Friday October 6. Zind and her colleague arrived Friday for a week long mission organized by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), an Ohio-based organization.
Person stabbed in parking lot of Orchard Mesa City Market

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - One person has been taken to the hospital after an apparent stabbing. Just before 5:00 p.m. police got a report of someone being stabbed. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the City Market along Highway 50. Police and fire officials arrived shortly after the call came in. A man in his 30′s was taken to hospital. GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The brand-new Grand Junction High School will be ready for students by the fall of 2024 if District 51 has its way. Somewhere within the new building there will be a new integrated health center. District 51 superintendent Dr. Brian Hill gave the Board of Education (BOE) an update on the new health care center that will go into the school Monday night. The discussion revolved around the best place within the new building to put it.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Shopping and dining came to a halt Friday evening when a power outage hit the area around 24 Rd. and Patterson. Shoppers were left inside City Market with no way of paying for goods. If you were taking in dinner and a ballgame at Boston’s Pizza you were left in the dark.
