GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — This season, the Grand Junction Jackalopes won’t just be the Jackalopes. On Wednesdays this summer, the Jackalopes will be the Grand Junction Humpback Chubs. A new identity for Grand Junction’s baseball team is here. The humpback chub is one of the four endangered fish in the Colorado River system. The fish is especially prevalent in the Grand Valley and Western Slope.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Colorado Mesa football now has an open position at safety. A two-year starter at defensive back, sophomore Jason Thome has entered his name into the transfer portal. An Arvada native and former Ralston Valley Mustang, Thome took home two RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors in his two seasons with the Mavericks. Thome also led the RMAC in interceptions in back-to-back seasons. Best of luck to Thome in his next step.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — On a Tuesday night at Unity Field it was all Fruita Wildcats. Led by sophomore Kenna Celeyeta and senior Audrey Rhoden the Fruita pushed the pedal all senior night long on Central. Despite some epic saves from Central goalie River Wescott, Fruita hit pay dirt many a time dominating Central 9-0. With the win, Fruita improves to 6-2-2 overall and 4-0-2 in Southwestern League play as Central falls to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in SWL play.
