    Variety Wholesalers intends to open more than 70 new Big Lots! stores on June 5, including 14 in Pennsylvania. Stores in Johnstown and Greensburg are on that list, according to reporting by USA Today. The Daily American also received an email May 22 from Variety Wholesale's press office confirming the June 5 date for the Johnstown store opening. The Daily American and USA Today are both owned by Gannett Media. The Johnstown store is located at 1425 Scalp Ave.

    Motorists should expect some minor delays along Route 56 in Windber starting May 27 while a contractor makes safety improvements to the heavily traveled roadway, according to a May 23 announcement by PennDOT. A High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) will be applied to the road at the Route 56 and 12th Street intersection and the Route 56 and Route 160 intersection to reduce vehicle accidents in those areas.

There are about 29 drive-in theaters still in operation in Pennsylvania, more than any other state in the U.S. except New York. Shankweiler's Drive-In Theatre in eastern PA, which opened in 1934, is the nation's oldest drive-in still in operation.
