Perry Memorial Park was a prime place for family-friendly activity April 12, as the host site of Aiken's community Easter egg hunt. This year's event included a lofty addition with help from an Aiken Department of Public Safety crew. Firemen used a ladder truck to get a bird's-eye view of the park and toss out plastic eggs for kids' dash-and-grab pleasure. The crew tried a variety of techniques to spread the eggs out, to avoid having an entire batch drop directly on a small clump of kids.

The effort to publicize Aiken's annual Memorial Day parade has a variety of USC Aiken students putting their creativity into gear this year, in cooperation with Aiken County Veterans Council. The parade, a presentation of the council, is traditionally promoted through the efforts of students exploring graphic design, and this year's effort to produce a promotional poster includes 21 such students — the biggest count yet.

One of Aiken County's biggest annual golf tournaments is set for May 19, with plans in place for Wounded Warrior Charity Golf Classic. The host site, in keeping with tradition, is Woodside, and the deadline for player entries is May 3, with a limit of 248 players. The cost is $125 per person or $500 per foursome.
