One tree caught my eye, and suddenly, they were everywhere, as if they’d been waiting for me to notice. They were there all along, of course, hidden in plain sight. People bloom like that, too. A young person, once a small child in our memories, steps forward as a graduate, their dreams in full flower.

Many don’t know this, but my wife Katie spent six years working on post-Katrina recovery projects for the Mississippi Development Authority. Through that, our family was able to see up close just how resilient Mississippians are. Since then, hurricanes have continued to hit our coastline, leaving tornadoes and floods to tear through communities to the north.

I heard of a young man who applied for a job. On his resume he listed the places he had previously worked.

May 9, 2025 – The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department reports that a woman in custody died Friday as a result of a “critical medical emergency.”The as yet unidentified inmate, listed as a 37-year-old woman, was in a medical holding cell at the Adult Detention Center when the emergency happened. Facility staff did offer successful life saving measures and the inmate was taken by emergency medical personnel to a hospital. However she died after arriving at the hospital.

Starting Monday, May 12, road work will begin along Camp Creek Boulevard and Craft-Goodman-Frontage Road in Olive Branch. This roadway improvement project is to help increase safety and increase efficiency of vehicle traffic within this area and will include: road paving and a lane change configuration along Camp Creek Boulevard and a traffic signal change at the intersection of Craft-Goodman-Frontage and Camp Creek Boulevard.
