    June 3, 2025 – Olive Branch police and fire, along with representatives of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI were called out to Southern Wire Corporation Tuesday morning on a report of a possible bomb.  Emergency Communications received a call about 9:15 a.m. of a possible explosive device on the loading dock of the business, located at 8045 Metro Drive off DeSoto Road. Personnel from the Olive Branch Fire and Police Departments evacuated the area and constructed a safety perimeter.

    June 3, 2025 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Arkabutla Lake will open a small day use area adjacent to the northern end of Arkabutla Dam as early as June 5. Renovations were recently completed in the area, including a basketball court, a restroom, and picnic tables. Access to the remainder of the recreation areas below the dam, as well as the road along the bottom of the dam, will remain closed to the public due to the ongoing structural issues with Arkabutla Dam.

    June 3, 2025 –  Hernando’s Historic Town Square will be rocking to the sounds of music from some of the top local bands each Thursday night during the month of June. The annual Sunset on the Square concert series is every Thursday in June and this year’s series kicks off Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m..  Food trucks that will be set up and ready to serve tasty food from nachos, pizza, lemonade, Chick-Fil-A nuggets, shaved Italian ice, to wraps, dessert and more.

    June 3, 2025 – Two Lowndes County men were sentenced for drug trafficking in Northern Mississippi. According to court documents, Charles Stephen Farrar, Jr., of Columbus, Mississippi, pled guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District to Mississippi to trafficking methamphetamine. Farrar was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Glen H. Davidson on Monday to over 11 years in prison for the charge.

    June 3, 2025 – A man charged in the early morning strong arm robbery of an elderly woman at the Olive Branch City Park last July has pleaded guilty to three felony counts in connection with the incident. Rakeem Woodley, who has had previous felony arrests in Wisconsin, will now spend up to 35 years in a Mississippi prison on those charges.
