When Walsh Jesuit went looking for an athletic director, the Warriors wanted someone with experience to replace outgoing AD Mark Hassman. They found it in Denny Ziegler. Ziegler comes to Walsh from Strongsville High School, where he had worked since January 2019. Under his tutelage, the Mustangs won a state and national title in girls soccer in 2020. Ziegler starts at Walsh on July 1.

STVM pitcher Tyler Slone pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits and striking out 13. Slone's performance avenged a district final loss from the previous year where he left early due to injury. STVM will play either Wapakoneta or Tiffin Columbian in the regional semifinals. Five Greater Akron area softball teams advanced to the OHSAA regional semifinals. Walsh Jesuit, Green, Hoban, Tallmadge, and Manchester all won district titles. Green is making its first regional appearance in school history. Regional semifinals are Wednesday, May 28. Green, Hoban, Tallmadge, Walsh Jesuit and Manchester all won Ohio High School Athletic Association district softball titles. For most of those teams it was business as usual.

Thirteen Greater Akron baseball teams are competing in the OHSAA district tournament. CVCA, Highland, Hoban, Hudson, Norton and Walsh Jesuit look like teams capable of a run to regionals. Here's a look at the next game for each of those six teams, as well as their key players. A total of 13 Greater Akron area baseball teams are scheduled to play in OHSAA district tournament games this week with dreams of hoisting a state championship trophy at Canal Park in June.
