WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - As Sedgwick County looks for ways to keep property taxes down, Sedgwick County cities and county leaders are working together to come up with a solution. That includes talks of property tax relief through the use of a sales tax. On Wednesday, representatives from 15 cities showed up to a Sedgwick County Commission meeting with Commissioner Ryan Baty whose district includes areas of the county north of Wichita. The question that remains is how to move the relief forward.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - When the tones drop at a Wichita fire station, the fire trucks roll. But what happens when the truck gets on the scene and it doesn’t work? According to Wichita Fire Union President Ted Bush, this is happening. “When 40% of your trucks are down due to mechanical issues, you’ve got a problem and that’s a concern for us,” Bush said. In a Facebook post, the union said that three of Wichita’s seven truck companies are down.

(KWCH) - Industrial solar power is a heated topic in Kansas with some counties wanting them and others saying “no.” As Sedgwick County inches closer to the approval of new regulations that will allow for solar farms, 12 News reporter Branden Stitt spoke with county commissioners about what to expect with the new plans. In 2019, Sedgwick County blocked wind farms, but unlike other counties in Kansas that did the same, Sedgwick County left the door open for solar.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A drug called carfentanil is 100 times more powerful than fentanyl and is a growing concern in Sedgwick County as the drug, used to tranquilize elephants, has found its way into the illicit drug market. Carfentanil use in California was highly reported in 2019 but now it’s moved to Kansas. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said the deadly opioid has already killed four people this year in Sedgwick County. With its extreme potency, its dangers have become a major concern.
