On Nov. 5, Madison voters approved a plea by city leaders to raise property taxes by $22 million and avoid steeper cuts to government services. Citywide, the measure passed by a comfortable margin, according to unofficial results reported by the Dane County Clerk. About 57% voted in favor. But at the neighborhood level, the referendum clearly received stronger support from more central residents than those living farther from downtown.
