J’s Bakery and Café has opened at 1124 W. Garden St., serving downtown Pensacola some of its best-selling pastries, including smiley face cookies, chocolate bars, thumbprint cookies, fruit danishes and much more. The downtown J’s will be a sister store to the original location at 2014 N. 12th Ave., which has been a staple in the East Hill community since 1946. J’s Bakery owner Ryan Thomas purchased the new location’s building at 1124 W.

It’s time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, an annual holiday on May 5 that recognizes Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire led by Napoleon III at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. May 5 falls on a Monday this year, so bars and restaurants in the Pensacola area are hosting celebrations and specials on the holiday itself, along with some starting the party early on May 2.
