Cheers, applause and confetti filled House Three Thirty on Monday evening as 100 teachers and administrators from Akron Public Schools received scholarships to attend a workshop at The Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta this summer. “My whole team is going!” exclaimed Glover Community Learning Center Principal Grace Tome. She was at the event with four of her colleagues. All of them — plus another colleague they FaceTimed after the announcement — will attend the summer workshop.

Janoi Daley is thinking a lot about transition these days. In “New Chapter,” her latest exhibit, which opened at Summit Artspace on Friday, Daley, 23, looked to her own experiences with change, from immigrating to the United States from Jamaica as a child to navigating different spaces as a Black woman.

It’s the last weekend to catch Western Reserve Playhouse’s production of “The Shark is Broken,” a comedic play about the making of “Jaws.” The show offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the famous film by exploring the sometimes strained and always funny relationships between the cast. The show runs Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25. Help spruce up an Akron neighborhood Saturday at the Merriman Valley Gateway Cleanup, hosted by Preserve the Valley.

After days of back-and-forth between House Republicans and library proponents, the House on Wednesday approved a biennial budget that increases funding to public libraries, but not to the level proposed by Gov. Mike DeWine. The House’s budget also changes how public libraries are funded by forgoing the Public Library Fund, which formerly received a percentage of the overall state budget, in favor of a flat rate.

Professional musicians, music students and university faculty will bring the sounds of jazz to venues around the city for the University of Akron’s JazzWeek. The annual event kicks off Monday with a different concert each day through Friday. Performances will take place on and off campus and are open to everyone. With Jazz Week, University of Akron School of Music students have a chance to interact with and learn from professional musicians.
