Controversial plans for a new £6 million Dunfermline Home Bargains store have been recommended for approval by council officials. Owner TJ Morris was forced to return with fresh plans for the shop on Dunlin Drive last year after its first proposals were rejected. Now, the council’s planning department is recommending councillors should give the development the green light. The final decision will lie with elected members when they discuss the plans next week.

Dundee City Council chiefs have been rapped by a watchdog for “deliberately misconstruing” a request to reveal details of repair works at the Olympia. The leisure centre shut for more than two years in October 2021 after a series of issues were found in the swimming pools. The local authority commissioned £6.1 million worth of work to be carried out over more than two years.

A 12-year-old girl has been charged after an attack on another girl in Forfar. The incident happened near Reid Park on April 25. A video of the incident – where another 12-year-old girl was attacked – was shared widely on social media. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a 12-year-old girl being assaulted in the Reid Park area of Forfar around 6.15pm on Friday April 25. “A 12-year-old girl has been charged in connection and a report will be sent to the relevant authority.”

The name of a new south-west Fife high school has been confirmed. A public consultation was launched to find a name for the £88 million building, which is being constructed on the former Rosyth Fleet Grounds. Councillors on the South and West Fife Area Committee have now agreed to approve the name for the replacement Inverkeithing High. The school will be called Caledonia High School, which emerged top of a poll with more than 1,000 votes.

Large areas of the country, along with Portugal, were left without power after a massive outage on Monday. Power is now returning in some parts as an investigation into the cause takes place.
