As of September 30, 2006, it had an average daily circulation of 20,824 and a Sunday circulation of 23,840. It is one of only two family-owned daily newspapers still operating in Alabama, alongside The Anniston Star.

The U.S. and China have cut the tariffs levied on each other in April, with the U.S. cutting the 145% tax Trump imposed last month to 30%. China agreed to lower its tariff rate on U.S. goods to 10% from 125%. The lower tariff rates came into effect on Wednesday.

    A tax refund of more than a million dollars being demanded by Hexcel Corp. could cause layoffs and program cuts at Decatur City Schools, according to an affidavit by Superintendent Michael Douglas. Douglas filed the affidavit in an effort to get the Morgan County Circuit Court to allow Decatur City Schools to intervene in Hexcel's appeal of the assessment of its business personal property at its Decatur plant.

    The Decatur City Council will interview a candidate for planning director at 2 p.m. Wednesday on the seventh floor of City Hall, the city announced Monday. The council plans to interview Clifford Cross, director of Economic Development, Planning and Zoning in Belleville, Illinois. The interview is open to the public, as room space allows.
