A Palliative Medicine Consultant for the Health Service Executive says that having a specialist palliative care inpatient unit in the Midlands will mean that local specialist palliative care teams will have the full range of services available to patients. Dr Pauline Kane, made her comments in a statement issued by the HSE in conjunction with the recent submission of a planning application for a Midland's Hospice to be located in Tullamore.

A one-way system will come into operation on the Kilbeggan Bridge in Tullamore from next Monday April 14. This is to facilitate further enhancements to the roads. The system will be in place for a period of three weeks. At the Tullamore Municipal District meeting, Senior Executive Engineer Joe Dooley said the work has been timed to coincide with the Easter school holidays minimising disruption to commuters.

The numbers of passengers using Tullamore and Clara railway stations continues to rise with more people making use of public transport to commute to work or for leisure. Figures from Irish Rail reveal that in 2023 there were 420,356 journeys made from Tullamore station. In 2024 that figure rose to 457,708 an increase of almost 9%. 24 additional services have been added since last August. Four Monday to Friday and two on Saturdays and Sundays.

Councillor Declan Harvey has moved to assure people there will be no job losses at the Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery at Clonminch.Cllr Harvey was speaking at the April Municipal District meeting. The Tullamore Tribune reported this week that whiskey production is to cease at the distillery for up to three months amid challenging conditions internationally for the Tullamore D.E.W. Brand.
