(WCTV) - As the confirmation vote for Florida A&M’s president-elect approaches, a group of alumni and students filed a lawsuit Monday against the FAMU Board of Trustees and the Florida Board of Governors, alleging the pick of Marva Johnson was “predetermined in violation of the state Constitution.”Attorneys Mutaqee Akbar and Ennis Jacobs filed the 154-page civil lawsuit in Leon County’s Second Judicial Circuit.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — Verizon customers in Leon County are encountering disruptions to calling, texting and data services on Friday. According to Leon County spokesperson Matt Cavell, the county contacted Verizon about these issues, and the company confirmed that 15 of its towers are experiencing outages. “We are actively working on restoration,” Verizon told the county. 911 calls will continue to route despite the outage, according to Cavell.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Capital County and City commissioners voted Thursday to give taxpayer dollars to airlines and a quarter of a million dollars to affordable housing funding. The motion passed 10-2 at a Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency Board of Directors meeting, on which members of both the Tallahassee and Leon County Commissions sit. Elected officials approved $670,000 in annual funding to incentivize airlines to begin service at Tallahassee International Airport.

VATICAN CITY, Italy (WCTV) - White smoke poured from the Sistine Chapel chimney Thursday afternoon, signaling a new pope has been elected. And the new pope is making history in a new way. Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected the first American pope, and he will be called Pope Leo XIV, according to CBS News. He is from Chicago. The white smoke first appeared at about 12:08 p.m. The news comes just over 24 hours after the doors to the chapel closed for the conclave to begin the voting process.

(WCTV) - Dick Howser Stadium was packed with people and filled with emotion Tuesday night, as Florida State University hosted its first athletic event since Thursday’s tragic shooting, which claimed two lives and injured several others. The sold-out crowd against Stetson University bathed the stadium in garnet and gold, with many holding signs in tribute to the first responders.
