TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/AP) - Two people have died and multiple others are hospitalized after a shooter opened fire Thursday on Florida State University’s campus, officials said. In a press conference Thursday afternoon, local officials shared that six additional people are hospitalized and the shooter is also hospitalized. Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner. The deceased are not students, according to FSU Police.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A bipartisan effort to ban oil drilling near the Apalachicola River took another step forward Tuesday. The bill unanimously passed the House State Affairs Committee Tuesday, sending it to the house floor. Co-sponsor Jason Shoaf, R-7, said he hopes to bring it up for a vote next week. He filed the bill along with Allison Tant, D-9. It would ban oil drilling within 10 miles of certain marine estuaries, including the Apalachicola River basin.

Since Southwest Georgia Oil proposed a 16-pump station at the corner of U.S. 319 and Bloxham Cutoff Road in 2022, local activists have spoken out against what they fear would be a fatal blow to nearby natural treasures, including Wakulla Springs.
