A report by the Housing Agency has found that Limerick City and County council is the most successful in the country at tackling dereliction and developing vacant properties to add to their housing stock. The council has tackled the issue of dereliction aggressively over the past seven years and has vested, or taken ownership of, 206 derelict properties up to last year.

Gardaí have made a fresh appeal for information which might help them finally close their file on the murder of a 23-year-old art student Emer O'Loughlin on the 20th anniversary of her death. The remains of Ms O’Loughlin, a native of Ennistymon in Co Clare, were discovered in a badly burned out mobile home on lands at Ballybornagh near Tubber in Co Clare, on 8 April 2005. She had been living in a caravan on the land with her boyfriend at the time as they planned to build there.

Excavation work along the route of the Adare bypass unearthed a medieval treasure when a brooch pin dating back to the eighth century was discovered deep in the Co Limerick earth. It was discovered at Ardshanbally last year by a team of archaeologists working for Archaeological Management Solutions who are providing pre-development excavation work off the bypass site on behalf of Limerick City Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
