CONWAY — Horry County voters could be asked to approve an extra 1 percent sales tax next year in a swap that would lower property tax bills and generate additional money for local governments in the rapidly growing region. But officials don't know if adding that tax would be legal given the other levies already collected here, specifically in Myrtle Beach. They plan to ask the S.C. Attorney General's Office for an opinion before pursuing a referendum.
