Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals not only finished his chase of Wayne Gretzky’s career NHL goals record this season, he’s given himself some breathing room over the Great One. The 39-year-old Russian star, who broke the goals record long held by Gretzky on April 6 when he scored the 895th of his career against the New York Islanders, ended the season with 897 after scoring in the Capitals’ regular-season finale against the Penguins.

Chris Brady had five saves to help Chicago play Atlanta United to a 0-0 tied Saturday night at Soldier Field despite the fact the hosts didn’t record a shot on goal. Brady made back-to-back stops in the 79th minute and two more down the stretch for the Fire (2-4-4), who are scoreless in three consecutive games — including a 4-0 loss to Real Salt Lake last week — following a 2-1 win over the Houston Dynamo on April 6.
