Residents enjoyed a “big breakfast” and a get-together on Saturday morning (May 31) whilst helping to raise funds for Christian Aid. The annual event, held at Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall, saw more than 20 volunteers from all the churches in the area cook breakfasts for over 100 people. There was a buzz around the hall in The Forebury, with everyone enjoying the company of friends and also making new acquaintances, while ordering their second round of toast and tea.

Visitors to Sheering Mill Lock learned all there is to know about the waterway that runs through Sawbridgeworth on Saturday (May 31) – and the lucky ones enjoyed a free trip in a canal boat. Sawbridgeworth Town Council’s fourth annual River Day was declared a success and the organisers were delighted to welcome a new group to the event.

A charity which supports people with vision loss across Hertfordshire has been awarded the King’s Award For Voluntary Service 2024. Herts Vision Loss, supports blind and visually impaired individuals across the county. Based in Welwyn, the charity boasts a rich history dating back to 1915, when it was known as the Hertfordshire Society for the Blind. Over the years, it has evolved, becoming financially independent from the RNIB in 1992, a move that allowed it to raise funds autonomously.

There will be a lot of messing about on the river this weekend as residents are invited to learn all about the waterway that runs through their town. The free event, organised by Sawbridgeworth Town Council and the Canal and River Trust, takes place on Saturday (May 31) between midday and 4pm at Sheering Mill Lock and a host of activities planned include trips in a canal boat. Visitors can discover what wildlife lives along, or in the river and can also learn how healthy the River Stort is.

A charity set up by a grieving mother and her former Spurs star brother after the suicide of her son has grown beyond their wildest dreams. Michelle Hazard set up the Legend On The Bench scheme following the tragic death of her 23-year-old son Jay in 2019. The first bench, bearing a QR code which will take anyone requiring support directly to the charity’s website’s help page, was put in place in Bullfields Park in Cutforth Road, Sawbridgeworth – a popular haunt of Jay – in February last year.
