PORTLAOISE Order of Malta recently cut the ribbon on their brand new headquarters. The new building in the IDA Business Park on the Mountrath Road will secure the future of the local Order of Malta cadets and senior units, and in so doing ensure they can continue to support the local community. The new HQ will also allow the Order to continue offering training courses to groups and members of the public.

FOLLOWING the success of last year’s initiative, Abbeyleix Tidy Towns welcomes the return of its ‘No Mow May’ pollinator lawn art competition’ for 2025. This year's competition will once again celebrate creativity, community spirit and biodiversity. Participants are invited to reimagine their lawns by letting them grow wild throughout May while mowing creative pathways or pollinator-themed designs.

THE first of the Portlaoise Spotlight Sessions took place in Dunamaise Arts Centre recently. Singers, songwriters, poets and creatives travelled from all corners of Laois and beyond to attend an evening dedicated to sharing original music and spoken word. Turning the concept of the traditional open mic on its head, the event focused on celebrating original work, with pieces performed for the very first time, tunes created on the spot and original music and voice filling the room.
