(ST PAUL, MINN) – The Minnesota Department of Health is delaying layoffs made public Monday. A temporary restraining order issued by the federal district court in Rhode Island has given officials ‘additional short-term certainty’ around funding, which allows for the delay of the layoff process. Beginning April 1, the Department sent both layoff and separation notices to approximately 170 employees due to the terminated federal grants. Those layoffs are now effective May 13.

(ST. PAUL, MINN) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz joined lawmakers, state officials, doctors and advocates to discuss the impact of federal health care cuts proposed by the Trump Administration. The changes proposed to Medicaid and health care funding could result in $880 billion in cuts to more than one million Minnesota residents.

(MINNESOTA) – Polls are open in Minnesota’s 6th Senate District. The District includes residents in Cass, Crow Wing and Itasca Counties. The special primary is being held prior to the special election on April 29 to fill the vacancy, which was created when Senator Justin Eichorn resigned after being federally charged on attempted coercion and enticement of a minor charges. Prosecutors say he messaged an undercover officer posing as a 17-year-old girl agreeing to pay her for sex.

(FARGO, ND) – A Fargo North student has been named a finalist for the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s Distinguished Student Award. Finnegan Kielty was named one of six finalists for the award, which recognizes young people who are the ‘backbone’ of interscholastic activities. Kielty is a member of the Fargo North football team. The winner will be named later this month.

(BISMARCK, ND) – The North Dakota Senate says no to annual sessions of the state’s legislature. House Bill 1408 failed on the Senate floor after more than 20 minutes of debate. Senator Kristin Roers, of Fargo, says the issue of annual sessions has been considered previously by the North Dakota Legislature – but for slightly different reasons each time. She made reference to the fast pace of the first 100 days of the Trump administration and the changes proposed during those days.
