Friends of a B.C. woman allegedly fatally stabbed by her husband say her death highlights the need for an urgent conversation about domestic and intimate partner violence. Kulwant Kaur was found with stab wounds that ultimately proved fatal at her New Westminster home on Friday, Oct. 13. Her husband, Balvir Singh, 57, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death.

Nearly a year after ABC Vancouver swept to power largely on a pledge to hire 100 police officers and 100 mental health nurses, the latter half of that plan appears to have hit a road block. While the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it has managed to hire about 100 new officers, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) says it has only managed to recruit the equivalent of 9.5 full-time positions.

The family of a Chilliwack, B.C., couple shot dead in their home last week is outraged their accused killer has been released on bail. John Kavaloff, 58, and Valerie Smith, 67, were found dead at their mobile home on Chilliwack Lake Road by officers responding to a shots-fired call on Sept. 13. Robert Freeman, 83, has been charged with two counts of second degree murder, in what police have described as an isolated neighbours’ dispute.
